Burchell Sets Record in 60-Meter Dash to Highlight Final Day of SEC Indoor MeetPublished by Alabama Athletics on Feburary 28, 2015
LEXINGTON, Ky. -University of Alabama senior sprinter Remona Burchellset a collegiate record in the women's 60-meter dashon Saturdayafternoon while winning the event at the 2015 Southeastern Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships at Nutter Fieldhouse in Lexington, Ky. Burchell's performance led the Crimson Tide women to their highest team finish in five years, as well as their highest points total over that span.
The Alabama men finished sixth in the team standings with 49 points while the Tide women's team was eighth with 34 points, highest finish since 8th in 2010 and the most points scored by an Alabama women's squad at the SEC indoor meet since then. Alabama's sixth-place men's team finish marks only the third time since 2002 that the Tide has posted a finish in the top six at the SEC indoor meet.
"It's always tough going in this conference, but it was great to see our athletes compete and scrap for points today," said head coach Dan Waters.
